Redmond Smokejumper Base

After touring the park and having lunch, we learned more about fire fighting at the Redmond Smokejumper Base. Redmond houses the Cache where we were shown the myriad of hoses, fittings, and pipes used to control fires. An experienced firefighter described the risks of getting retardant on oneself; the clay just coats the skin and seals off all moisture.

Some firefighters were practicing repelling from a helicopter so we saw in action a different part of what we had heard about back in Missoula, the tandem jumps.
