2008 with a new RV

Jerry and I started off the new year with another RV. He wanted a diesel pusher and I wanted a kitchen counter and place for the computer so we bought a 2005 Diplomat. It doesn't match the red tag car but it is more roomy and very nice.

We tested it our on a spontaneous trip to Death Valley. Jerry announced on a Sunday that the flowers were in bloom and we left on Monday. Highway 395 was covered in white and absolutely beautiful. The ride down was one glorious scene after another.

The bloom report was right. Death Valley was golden with yellow daisies. White, pink and violet added their touch. We attended two photo walks led by professional photographers. Their two hour walks became three hour seminars that would have cost hundreds of dollars in real life. We both learned a lot though Jerry probably shows it better.

We also learned more than we could absorb on a flower walk. Other than the few names I still remember, my two favorite bits were that the temperature below the surface reaches 200 degrees in the summer and that there is a wasp that only develops when a certain yellow flower blooms (every five years or so). Talk about togetherness.

In May Cheryl treated me to an early Mother's Day by meeting us in Ashland, Oregon for plays, eating, and shopping. She was in Oregon for her work with the National Zoo and took an extra couple of days to spend with us. We had a great, but very short, time together.

Our major adventure starts Memorial Day weekend with a trip to the Northwest. Some of you will remember my comments when we headed to Canada last year. I promised to either shoot the RV, shoot Jerry, or plan another trip. Well you can see what I decided.

We look forward to your comments as we head out for the next couple of months.
